I'm a long time oil painter, but pretty new to computer graphics. I've enjoyed using Adobe Photoshop LE as a painting tool, but have not learned much about the sophisticated possibilities of the medium. Just added a page of digital portraits to my web page. I look forward to learning from the experts!

Bio / Techniques:

About 5 years ago I got an opportunity to make a couple of oil paintings in an abandoned state mental hospital. I had been working as a nurse with homeless mentally-ill people for several years. What you see here represents a seclusion room on one of the wards. I recently scanned the slide of this painting and painted a vague likeness of myself from memory in Painter 5. A joining of digital and analog. When I get more time, I'll make a more straightforward self-portrait from observation and post it.

If you teach school, you strive to create interesting challenges for yourself and your students. This animated GIF was created using the layers feature of Photoshop 4. The snap to guide feature made it easy to size the 9 thumbnail images using the free transform tools. There are a total of ten images combined using MicroSoft GIF Animator.

i created this image using two black and white negatives, one of me and one of a human skull-the two negatives were sandwiched and printed to produce an 8x10 image-this image was then scanned and manipulated in photoshop-i duplicated the original layer three times and used free transform to create a cube-i used hue and saturation to give each side a unique look and then flattened the layers-i then made several more duplicate layers and manipulated the layer modes to create the final image-the original image measures 9 by 7 inches and is around 13 megs, so a great deal of detail is lost in this reduced version.

I have been painting and teaching art almost 40 years. This self-portrait was done in Painter 2 with a regular mouse when I first got a computer 2 years ago. I have since graduated to Painter 5 and a drawing pad. I find Painter so intuitive to use, that I just ÔpaintÕ (with the brushes and water, mostly) as I would in my studio without using many of the technical proceedures that painter is capable of.I love it....but I still paint in the studio.

I have been doing digital graphics since 1983. 3D animation is the most enjoyable and challenging of all the types of work I do. Doing web and interactive business system designs is what pays the bills and feeds my software habit. I also teach 3D design and HCI so I am learning all the time. I guess my "main" tools would be RDSv5, trueSpace2, PhotoPaint, Expression, Ulead MediaStudio Pro (suite of tools), and Goo (for fun). I'm Wintel based and coffee powered.

More image fiddlin' here. I'm a programmer who wishes he was an artist. I express myself through code. As that is often not creatively satisfying to me, I am also a digital art hobbyist. I use lots of fun tools (Painter 4, Pshop 4, Ray Dream, Strata Studio, Director 5, Canvas, etc), now I just need some formal art training so I learn how to use them well! :)

Living on a very small Caribbean island one cannot help but get caught up in small town thoughts. In my recent collection of works I decided to expose some social secrets and include myself in the "Melee" This collection of floaters and images nozzles were used throughout the 8 images.
