I am at working to understand the complexities of Painter 5 and applied various selections from the Gradations menu in constructing this image. Using floaters I tried to capture a sense of levitating forms in a field of modulated architectural structure. Other images from this exercise can be viewed on my free-for-all digital-Journal Web site.

Artist: Dave April

Techniques:

I created a variety of shapes for the island, trees and leaves The sun was created with a starburst gradient and composited with a linear gradient. The ocean is another linear gradient ramp. Finally, I dropped all the shapes and color balanced it a bit. (Probably not enough though, as I'm color blind, but it looked good to me!)

It is a gif animation made with painter using various gradiation settings and the paint bucket tool. I played with using the layer blend options on the various floaters. This was a challenge to make as I still have a difficult time figuring out all animation features and work arounds you must do to use floaters while making a movie.

Kyle created this picture while sitting on mom's lap. Kyle is 6 years old and used liquid metal to draw the image Then Kyle picked what gradient was to be applied to the floaters. Mom added the drop shadows with Kyle's approval - Alyson Chervier (Mom)
Title: Untitled Untitled
Artist: Mary Broussard
WWW Site: http://www.widowsweb.com/
Techniques:

I did this in Painter5 using only the gradients and the water drop - some touchup (very little) with the feather tip airbrush. I used the digitizer pen tool to create some shapes. The drop shadow was applied to some and I made my own shadows for some by duplicating the shapes once they were collapsed into floaters coloring them black and feathering them and some were made negative to show a small glow. In some cases I made a shape with the lasso and moved it and filled the empty place with a 2 point black and white gradient and feathered that selection. All the gradients came with Painter5. Except for the fonts in my sig nothing else was used.
